Vale Ex Libris
1986 - 2009
Ex Libris passed away peacefully in his paddock on Sunday 22 March 2009.
He was the 1991 100 day test winner at Medingen and was a successful sports horse up to S Klasse in dressage. He sired 4 licensed sons including the Bundeschampion and later Grand Prix competitor Exupery. His most notable progeny, the Olympic competitor, Escapado has won at the top level under two different riders, Carl Hester and now Hans Peter Minderhoud. Escapado finished in 13th position at the Athens Olympics in the individual, and has won a number of top tiered Grand Prixs including the British Nationals. Escapado’s full brother has been purchased by Katie Price to be her up and coming FEI horse. Ex Libris daughters continue to influence the breeding in Germany with a number of successful horses being out of Ex Libris dams including the premium Rubinstein stallion Rubinero (Gestuet Vorwerk) and De Libris by De Niro (Warendorf). Ex Libris spent one stud season in the USA before being imported to Australia in 2004. He unfortunately became infertile and spent the last few years in retirement.
His presence is still felt in breeding today in Europe.
He will be sadly missed.

100 day performance test WINNER!!!
Sire of 4 licensed sons and 4 state premium mares. Sire of Exupery 4 year
old Bundeschampion in 1997
His progeny are known for high rideability
Ex Libris has an impressive international
pedigree. His sire Elan xx, who is placed in advanced dressage competitions,
is a son of the German TB Wiesenklee xx, who finished third in the German
Derby. Wiesenklee xx is also the sire of approved stallion Troublemaker
xx, who stood in the Netherlands and in Oldenburg. Ex Libris's dam Aphrodite
is one of the best Dutch mares and a multiple champion mare. In 1994 Aphrodite
presented a further approved and performance-tested son in the Netherlands.
She is by Principaal, who presented good dressage horses in the Netherlands.
He is a son of the successful sporting horse Formatuer (by the Holstein
Polaris and out of an Oldenburg bred dam) who is standing at stud in England
today.
Extremely valuable to the Dutch breeding of dressage horses is the Trakehner
stallion Doruto (sire of the great-grandam of Karolien), who became famous
thanks to several Olympic horses e.g. Banjo (Jo Rutten), Robby (Bert Rutten)
and above all Ideaal (Jo Hinnemann). Today he is found in the maternal
line of many good sporting horses and stallions.
In 1991 Ex Libris convincingly won the stallion performance test in Medingen,
scoring 9.0 twice for rideability and for basic paces (his very good walk
and outstanding trot have to be mentioned). He also achieved the highest
index for rideability at the test however his jumping was also above average
(8.33 for course jumping). Ex Libris successfully competed in the dressage
arena up to advanced level (Klasse S).
The approved son Exxon was Reserve Champion at his 100 day testing in
Marback and also in 1997 approved son Exupery won the 4yr old Bundeschampionate.
In 1996, one of his daughters was named Reserve Champion Mare at Rastede.
In addition, many auction horses candidates where sold (270,000DM at the
PSI auction, and 170,000 at Vechta). In 1994 a 4 year old Ex Libris daughter
competed in the Federal Championships of the German Riding Horse in Warendorf.
In 1993 Extraklasse was the top priced filly of all German breed societies'
